http://www.projectedletters.com/idealism--realism/chester-himes-a-rage-in-america.html It's a great study of an impressive novelist. Projected Letters: bringing to light forgotton treasures. Title: Re: Chester Himes Post by: j pailler on August 29, 2006, 03:13:55 PM Indeed this is an extremely important paper - As a Frenchman I was only aware (although very much an admirer) of Himes' Série Noire books. Mr Burke's work opens a new gate to my curiosity?. Thanks.
Title: Chester Himes Post by: gerrydodge on August 30, 2006, 12:39:02 PM It is of particular interest to me in Mr. Burke's very informative article about Chester Himes that he quotes from James Sallis's own biography of Chester Himes. Mr. Sallis's detective novels have obvious similarities to Mr. Himes's own style of writing in that genre. I must admit, I like Mr. Sallis's detective novels more, but nonetheless, one of the important writers of our time was clearly influenced by this talented African-American writer.
